Titolo 9. Newsletter Irontrail

Dear Irontrailers

Bobbing tail, twitching nose, long brown ears… here comes the Easter Bunny hopping in. While the children are eagerly hunting for their Easter Eggs, you won't have to wait much longer yourself for the highlight of your year. The countdown has started...

Not yet registered? Then hurry, because the T201 is down to the last 100 places and the longest distance race is already fully booked for its premiere! Here are a few reasons why you absolutely have to be part of it:

Participants’ shirts for the premier

What do the Irontrail shirts look like? What's the design, the motif and above all the colour? We can't reveal too many details just yet… but one thing is for sure - everyone, whether they finish the race or not, will receive a highly desirable, original Mammut® shirt.

The big secret will be revealed on our website at the end of April.

Use of a GPS tracker system for monitoring the race confirmed

The Irontrail is not only bursting onto the scene with an unprecedented 201 kilometres, but with the use of a GPS tracker system will also be launching another premiere - a worldwide first on the trail running scene. The system offers the following functions:

  • Emergency button which triggers an alarm with the medical service, (with automatic indication of location).
  • Safety monitoring of the race via the internet (incl. flow control)
  • Should you veer off the correct route, an alarm will be triggered so you can be contacted by mobile phone to get you back on the right track.
  • Continuous notification of your position, so that your fans, support team and coaches can find out on the internet exactly where you are in the race.
  • Even when the race has finished, you will have access to all the records and will be able to analyse your race.

This tracker system is not a replacement for a GPS device. We recommend bringing your own GPS device with you, so you can check the route of the race at any time. You will find the gpx files on our website under the appropriate trail.

As already notified in the registration information, there will be a rental charge of CHF 30 (€ 25). For reasons of safety every participant is obliged to carry a tracker unit. They will be handed out when the race numbers are issued against a deposit of CHF 100 (€ 85). When you return the unit in the finishing area, the sum of CHF 70 (€ 60) will be refunded.

Survey on the subject of trail running

We know that everybody always has too little time, and not just for training. This is why we want to devise a way of communicating with you that perfectly suits your requirements.

Marlen Rogenmoser, a former intern at Tuffli Events, is writing her thesis on this very subject as part of her course at the Graubünden College of Tourism. The following survey forms the basis of her thesis. The findings will then be put to practical use for the Swiss Irontrail. In this way, we can ensure we keep you even better informed in future.

Please take five minutes of your time to answer the questions. As a small reward, we are raffling, amongst other things, a place in the 2013 Swiss Irontrail.

Arosa

Extended weekend in Arosa

Combine your entry in the T21 with an extended weekend in Arosa and take advantage of our special rates for accommodation from 6 to 8 July 2012.

When booking, you must mention without fail that you are taking part in the Swiss Irontrail. Please reserve your room in good time. As there are only a limited number of rooms in some hotel categories, it will be a case of "first come, first served".

You can find the special offers here

Three months to go until the highlight of 2012. Now is the time to sort out your travel and accommodation arrangements...

Use your Swiss Ticket, which is included in the entry fee, to travel to the event by public transport. In order for your "fans" to also avail themselves of this special offer, support team members can buy a Swiss Ticket at a very special price.

To start your adventure well rested, a comfortable bed is a must - and spa facilities surely come in a close second. So don't forget to book your accommodation. You will find some recommendations here...

Of course, the same applies to your arrival at the finish. Book your room in a hotel in Chur now, so you can recover from the exertion of the race. Don't forget to mention that you are taking part in the Irontrail. Be quick, as there aren't many rooms still available.

Why not use the Easter holidays to organise the final details?!

Happy Easter
Your Trail-Heidi and OC-Team
